Cracked Teeth in Greensboro

Cracked teeth demonstrate many types of symptoms, including pain when chewing, temperature sensitivities, or even the release of biting pressure. It is also common for tooth pain to come and go, making it difficult to diagnose the cause of discomfort.

Chewing can cause movement of the cracked pieces of your tooth, and the pulp within the tooth becomes irritated. At the same time, when biting pressure is released, the crack can close quickly, resulting in sharp pain. Eventually, the pulp will become damaged and tooth will consistently hurt, even when you are not chewing. It is possible that cracks can lead to infection of the pulp tissue, which can spread to the bone and gum surrounding the problematic tooth.

Types of Cracks

Craze lines

These are tiny cracks that only affect the outer enamel of the tooth. These cracks are more common in adults. These types of cracks are superficial and are usually of no concern.

Fractured Cusp

When a cusp becomes weakened, a fracture may result. The cusp may break off or be removed by a dentist. A fractured cusp rarely damages the pulp, so root canal is not necessary. Your dentist will usually restore the tooth with a full crown.

Treatable Cracked Tooth

This type of crack extends from the chewing surface of the tooth and vertically migrates towards the root. In some cases, the crack may extend below the gum line. It is possible for the crack to extend further into the root. Damage to the pulp is commonplace. In this case, root canal treatment is usually necessary. A cracked tooth that is not treated will worsen, resulting in the loss of the tooth. Therefore, early detection is essential.

Split Tooth

A split tooth is usually the result of an untreated cracked tooth. It can be identified by a crack with distinct segments. This type of tooth can never be saved intact. Yet, the position and extent of the problem will dictate whether any portion of the tooth can be saved. Sometimes, endodontic retreatment by the doctors and restoration by your dentist can be used to save a portion of the tooth.

Vertical Root Fracture

A vertical root fracture begins at the root and extends towards the chewing surface of the tooth. Unfortunately, they show minimal symptoms and may go unnoticed. Treatment involves endodontic surgery if a portion of the tooth can be saved by removal of the fractured root. Otherwise, the tooth will have to be extracted.

I was told by my local dentist that I probably had a cracked tooth and needed to see an endodontist. Unfortunately my issue occurred during the pre Christmas time frame and finding anyone offering appointments was a challenge! I eventually called Piedmont Endontics in Greensboro and was scheduled timely with Dr. Grine....on New Year's Eve. I did in fact need a root canal. From check-in to check-out everyone was so friendly, compassionate, respectful and genuinely concerned about me. I loved Dr. Grine and his assistant....I think Autumn....but not positive if that's her name. He did my evaluation and then offered to go ahead and do the root canal.....saving me another trip. We live an hour away. He was so kind and kept making sure I was ok. I will gladly recommend this practice to anyone in need of an endodontist. Thank you Dr. Grine and staff. It was worth the drive!

My husband was referred by his dentist to this office because his root canal was failing. When we called they worked him in and did the procedure the same day. All staff was very nice and kind. He explained and showed us what the issue was and how he was fixing it. I would recommend this office to everyone.

[you need to update the survey options and add Dr. Grimes to the list] After having my aching tooth misdiagnosed and having a crown placed 10 days earlier, I was at the end of my rope in terms of pain tolerance, frustration, and exhaustion by the time I was referred for an emergency visit. Dr. Grimes and his assistant Sherry immediately put me at ease. For the first time, I felt that my healthcare provider was listening to me, and I could sense that I was finally going to get the attention and care I deserved and needed. They did not let me down! Sherry was very reassuring throughout the sometimes painful procedure. Dr. Grimes did a great job first listening to me, and them explaining my condition and the contemplated treatment. What a professional job they did. And when I woke up the next day, I felt so much better, and one day later I was off all pain medication except ibuprofen. A superior experience for which I am very thankful!

I was very pleasantly pleased with my experience with Piedmont Endodontics. I was scheduled for a root canal and was very anxious about the procedure. The staff at the front office were cordial and efficient. Dr. Mohorn was professional and administered almost painless numbing and completion of the root canal. BUT, the greatest impression that I had while there was of Tonya, the dental assistant that cared for me. She was so calming and reassuring to my frazzeled nerves. She explained all the processes as they occurred so I wasn’t left wondering what was going on. She even prayed with me, what an amazing lady. Overall, I would highly recommend Piedmont Endodontics.

Dr. Baird explained the procedure thoroughly, had a great "chair-side" manner and performed the root canal with minimal discomfort !! His assisting staff were equally professional and reassuring during the procedure !! I could not ask for better care !!!

Dr. Horowitz and Piedmont Endodontics were wonderful. I very much appreciated Dr. Horowitz's kind manner as well as keeping me informed about how the procedure was going. I had very little pain after the novocaine wore off and absolutely no pain the next morning. He did an excellent job and I will be sure to return here if I need treatment in the future of this nature. Thank you!

Dr. Schweizer has an extremely warm/kind "bedside" manner. He explains everything before & after the procedure. He is very mindful of a person's nervousness and puts you at ease. His assistant was the same way! She constantly made sure I was comfortable and asked if I needed anything. I would highly recommend this office to anyone. The whole staff had a smile and a warm greeting.

Dr. Schweizer and his assistant Madison were awesome! They were both very nice, knowledgeable and professional. They carefully listened to everything I had to say and thoroughly answered all my questions. They did an excellent job on my root canal. I had no pain at all from start to finish and the procedure didn’t take as long as I thought it would. Also I had hardly no pain after the anesthesia wore off. If I ever need endodontic treatment again I would definitely use Dr. Schweizer and Madison again. I can highly recommend them to anyone who needs endodontic treatment.

Madison and Dr. Schweizer are professional and competent. Plus compassionate and friendly. Warm blankets and tapping on the shoulder while the numbing medicine was administered are just a few of the special things these people, including the rest of the office staff do. Excellent service.
